Destiny Binds (Timber Wolves) Review

Taking a much-loved genre and reworking it--in a way that is both innovative and amusing--is both very difficult, and highly in demand (especially in young adult literature). You've seen it in fairy-tale retellings (ever since Robin McKinley kicked things off); now, get ready to see it in Supernatural Romance.
Supernatural Romance has its structure (normal teen meets mysterious teen, discovers magic, enter third party--for the purposes of a love-triangle), just as Fairytale does (prince/princess, evil magical being, and breaking an enchantment). And you may think that, by now, you've seen all the Supernatural Romance genre has to offer (because, honestly, if you see another Stephanie-Meyer-wannabe-bishie-vampire, you might just jump off a cliff. Well, think again!
In place of Heroine Generica, you have Scout, a rural girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground, and a wit to match her strongly-held beliefs in logic and reason. In place of New York, San Francisco, or one of those cliche small towns (that was obviously written by someone who'd never lived in a small town), Destiny Binds is set in rural Western Kentucky, nestled between sports-obsessed Marshall County, and the Land Between the Lakes State Park (a refreshingly original setting that Tammy Blackwell makes great use of, pulling readers into a setting so real--and amusing--they can feel it). Add seers, a likable and well-developed cast of characters (to quote the author, "It's time the teens in YA literature were actually like the teens who read YA literature."), territorial shapeshifters, and an amusingly witty voice, to the mix, and you one heck of a fun novel.
Destiny Binds, is one of those impossible-to-put-down books that leaves you with just enough questions to make you long for a sequal without leaving you so many points unanswered you want to murder the author. To sum it up: Great setting, lovable cast, and a pure fun. Check yes!

Moon Spell: Part One in the Tale of Lunarmorte Review

Her future was set into motion long before Caia Ribeiro was born. Gaia, Mother of all the gods, had grown tired of the war that her children waged upon each other. In her infinite wisdom she set forth a plan that would eventually stop the war. And unbeknownst to Caia, she was at the very heart of it.
Hidden away from her pack for ten years after her family was killed by The Hunter, an enemy of Pack Errante and member of the Midnight Coven, Caia is finally allowed to return home. But her return is not exactly a welcome event.
The pack had already lost family members protecting her. And her absence from the pack for so long meant that she was an outsider. An outsider that couldn't necessarily be trusted and someone who didn't necessarily trust them.
She knew that she was different from all the other lykans in the pack, she just didn't know quite how different. She didn't resemble them in look, nor did she have their quick tempers and easy camaraderie. But spending much of her life in near isolation away from the pack was bound to make her different.
What she didn't understand were the dark looks she got from some of the other pack members. All she knew was that they were keeping secrets. Secrets about her family. Secrets about her past. And secrets about why she alone was the target of the Midnight Coven's wrath.
But when those secrets come to light, will Caia be able to accept what she learns about who she is and what she has the potential to become?
***
Moon Spell is an intoxicating and utterly entertaining story that is brilliantly written. The dramatic opening paragraph will entice readers in and once the story sinks its claws in it won't let go until the very last word in the epilogue.
The story centers around Caia, a lykan who has been living under special protection apart from her pack since her family was killed by The Hunter. She and her guardian, Irini, were allowed to return when it was deemed safe enough, after The Hunter was found and killed.
When Caia returns she is immediately drawn to the pack Alpha, Lucien, who is to be her protector. And much to the dismay of another female pack member, Lucien seems drawn to her. But Lucien and the rest of the pack are keeping things from her. And her discovery of those secrets may cause Caia to walk away from her friends, from her pack and from Lucien, not only for their betrayal but for their safety.
Author Samantha Young has done a sensational job in crafting this world of lykans, magiks and other supernaturals, and in creating a harmonious balance between light and dark, good and evil, and love and loss.
The dynamic she has created between her two main characters, Caia and Lucien, elevates this story above many of its peers. Each of them struggles with their feelings for each other, with the complicated relationship they have with one another, and with their responsibilities and what is necessary for the greater good.
Her secondary characters are not left out and play an integral role in this story that continues for two more books. Each of whom, from the plotting and manipulative Alexa to the cocky and overconfident Mal to the sweet and good-hearted Jaeden to the kind and loyal Sebastian, adds to the story's appeal.
Moon Spell is not a book to be missed. It is perfect for readers who love all things paranormal, who want to get a feel for what it is like to run with the wolves, who love dramatic tension between the female and male leads and who don't mind the tears that come when a beloved character is lost along the way.
My favorite passage is actually the first:
The war had been raging for centuries; a war that breathed beneath human reality, lost in the labyrinth of their legends and folklore. It was a silent war of soundless screaming and invisible bloodshed.

A note to readers: In its eBook format, the story has not been adapted for an American audience so readers should expect alternate spelling and punctuation as well as certain "Britishims."

The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies Review

With such a crazy title as, The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies, I wasn't sure how I was supposed to take the book seriously. Well, you aren't supposed to! The authors actually have a warning in the book letting the reader know it's a parody and not to be taken too seriously. Once I read that, I decided to just sit back and enjoy. I'm glad I did. I was already laughing before I got through the first paragraph. With character names like Rock Fangsworthy, Buffi Van Pelt, Billy Bob Bobson, and Chastity Feelsgood you just know you're in for a wild story.
Even with the hilarious names, and the fact each chapter was written by a different author, the story wasn't all fluff. The entire book flowed well from author to author and never went beyond a level of silliness that made it painful to read. Rock and Buffi's storyline had depth and even being presented in a comedic way kept me reading to make sure they got their HEA.
If you're looking for a good story to lighten your mood and make you laugh out loud, then you need to pick up The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies! You'll love the way these characters interact with each other. Who wouldn't want to be serenaded with KISS' "I Wanna Rock N Roll All Night" by a drunk, sexy vampire named Rock Fangsworthy?

The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies Overview

Theirs was a love that nature never intended. Bigger than Texas. Hotter than Hades. Weirder than'a lot of other things you might have read about up until now. Self-made zillionaire Rock Fangsworthy is your typical Texas cowboy'well, sort of. Typical in that the only thing this lethally sexy lady-charmer with the hair trigger temper loves more than his horse is his ranch, The Double Fang. Or maybe his boots. Less typical in the fact he's also a four hundred year old vampire with a shocking secret-he can't stand the sight of blood. Buffi Van Pelt is just your average girl-next-door winery owner'or is she? The spunky single mom to twin boys also happens to be a winsome werewolf with secrets and troubles of her own. The winery that the gutsy good-girl recently inherited from her grandmother is on the verge of ruin. If Buffi can't find a use for the mysteriously tainted wine before time and her pantry's limited supply of red meat runs out, she and her pups will be left homeless, destitute and very, very hungry. Worse yet, her baby-daddy is the same hunky, bad-boy vampire rancher who's out to steal The Best Little Winery in Bloodsuck from under her paws. Once upon a time their passion flamed hotter'n a summer's night in Dallas with three Cheerleaders and a side of habanero sauce. Tonight, love's lightning might just strike them twice'but only if the wine don't kill them first.

Blood Solstice: Part Three in the Tale of Lunarmorte Review

Last book in the trilogy does NOT disappoint. Sit back and prepare to be wowed.
Book two left as on a cliff hanger. Characters, motivations, plots, conspiracies explained and exposed - but events lead to Caia's plan for peace unravelling beyond control leaving Caia with tough challenges and decisions all leading up to the long prophesised Armageddon.
Trust me - this book is hard to put down so make sure you start it when you've got a few free hours ahead. Enjoy :)
[ps. the trilogy really needs to be read in order:

River Cast: Part Two in the Tale of Lunarmorte
Blood Solstice: Part Three in the Tale of Lunarmorte]
