Hellbourne Review

HellBourne series is not exactly a romance but more a discovery journey. It's the story of Lucifer "Luc" Hellbourne, half-fae half-devil, who is trying to find his place in the human and otherworldly world. After 20 years spent as Alpha male's lover of a werewolf pack, Luc is on the loose; his werewolf lover dumped him to marry a woman and have kids, a thing that even Luc, with all his special power, can't have. Wandering alone after so many years living in a pack is disconcerning and when Luc sees a night club called the River Styx, he feels a bit at home, and enters the club and a new stage in his life.
Obviously the Master Vampire of the club, Nikko, is all of the idea to make Luc his own personal thrall, and Luc, at first, is not against the idea: Nikko is a very good piece of a man, not exactly the emaciated vampire of legends. He is a stud, and Luc is not against the idea to have a rebound lover like him. Nikko is thinking to have found his personal pet, and in his magnanimity, to give protection to Luc, but he doesn't know that Luc has no need of his protection, Luc stays and goes when he wants and how he likes.
At the same moment Luc is in a three-way: his former lover Bran wants him back, his actual lover Nikko doesn't want to let him go and there is a new young vampire with the face of an angel, Jerrod, who needs his help, and how can a demon not being drawn by an angel?
Hellbourne is a continuing series, I have the feeling that also the following novella in the series will be centered around Luc and his search for a new home, and probably his real mate. The quality of the story is way better than the first attempts by this same author, she always plays with stereotype (the Alpha Male werewolf, the Master Vampire), but this time they are all elements mixed in a slightly more original way. Not that the previous short stories weren't good, but I feel like this new novella being more mature and complete.

Hellbourne Overview

Even when your father is the devil, love can be a scary thing.Luc Hellbourne is crushed when his werewolf lover dumps him for a female. Feeling unwanted he gives himself to the first guy who asks, Master Vampire Nikkolai Remondi. Except Nikkolai decides to keep Luc and when his ex-lover wants him back, all hell breaks loose. Which is easy when you're the devil's son.

Finding Forgiveness Review

Briefly, Ben and Dave are supposed to be mates. However, despite efforts on Dave's part Ben has stayed away and they have never consummated their relationship. Ben has made assumptions about Dave that are unfounded which end up having consequences. Dave on the other hand has decided he is done waiting for Ben and intends to go find a new partner to assuage his misery. Ben comes to his senses because the big misunderstanding is clarified with the threat of being kicked out of the pack. Ben goes to Disney to find Dave, he apologizes, wears a shirt, them have sex. They go home and everyone is okay and makes jokes at the end.
It was a cute story and I would probably have been fine with it except for the fact that I expect more from the author and the price. This book was so short, and the last 20% of it was made up of samples from other Samhain books including the same book. For the subject material and the price I expected more. Also, if you have not read the other books in the Halle series, you would not know which way to turn or how this world or relationships works. So it's not a story that is complete in and of itself.
The actual story is 1356/1688 locations. So it's pretty darn short. I have read the other books involving this world in the past and liked them. However, there was barely an inkling that these two were meant to be together. So when I heard theirs was the next book, I was curious to see how it evolved. Honestly, they deserved more time because I had a really hard time accepting years of mistrust and recriminations being cleared out over a week of sex, mating bond or not. To me, the issues in terms of old trauma from an alcoholic parent and migraines (presumably secondary to another misunderstanding) are not the kinds of things you work out in a few weeks. Essentially, the story overall strained my disbelief, especially the miraculous disappearance of the severe hospitalizing migraines after the official mating. I get the feeling the author was trying to say that they occurred because of the unfulfilled bond and misunderstandings but I couldn't sustain that. I could really see the blackmail behavior potential, oh if you aren't nice to me, I will have another migraine. In essence I have a hard time believing that at the end of the day these two would really be able to stay together and be happy, bond or no.

Finding Forgiveness Overview

To forgive is divine'if he can pin his lover down long enough to beg for it. Poconos Pack, Book 1Ben Malone's role as Marshall attunes him to every nuance of the pack's wellbeing-which means he's forced to feel every one of his mate's hangovers. It's the one reason Ben will never claim Dave Maldonado. Being alone is better than being with someone who lives in a bottle. Dave was destined to be a pack Alpha until his first migraine hit at age fifteen, the day he caught his future mate holding hands with another boy. In the nine agonizing years since, he's contented himself as Beta, but never learned to live with the pain and confusion of Ben's rejection. Dave's worst attack yet sends him to the hospital-and brings them both face to face with the misunderstanding that's kept them apart all these years. It's too late, though. Dave is headed for Gay Pride Week at Disney World with one goal in mind. Forget Ben Malone. Ben's got a problem with that. Only one man is destined to hold his David. And he'll give anything, even his last shred of pride, to win forgiveness-and the right to finally claim his mate. Warning: This book contains explicit sex, graphic language, and male/male love scenes between two top dogs. Who knew Rock Paper Scissors could be such fun?
