Epic Fail Review

If, like me, you are such a lover of all of the works of Miss Jane Austen, then you have probably developed a secondary affection for those novels or films that homage the great one. That was one reason why I adored "Bridget Jones Diary" back in the day, and the film "Clueless". This book fits in totally with those two, as it brings Pride and Prejudice to the city where it most belongs, Los Angeles. Seriously, can you think of any town with more "Pride?" Or for that matter, prejudice, as all of us judge the icons that town creates every time we stand at the check-out line frowning at the tabloids.
Well maybe that's just me.
Epic Fail is funny, kind, sweet and just a complete page turner. Because you know it's an homage to Miss Jane, you know it's going to have a wonderfully romantic happy ending, but man you are tense the whole way towards it, just as you would be when reading the original. The dialogue is pitch perfect in this book, and you will care deeply about every single person in this book. You'll hate Chelsea, you'll swoon over Derek, you will come to feel that they are real people in your life who must be DEALT WITH. Run, don't walk, the summer is almost over but there's a lawn chair and a big tall glass of iced tea just waiting for you and this book to show up and start the page turning! LOVED THIS BOOK!

Epic Fail Overview

Will Elise's love life be an epic win or an epic fail?

At Coral Tree Prep in Los Angeles, who your parents are can make or break you. Case in point:

As the son of Hollywood royalty, Derek Edwards is pretty much prince of the school—not that he deigns to acknowledge many of his loyal subjects.

As the daughter of the new principal, Elise Benton isn't exactly on everyone's must-sit-next-to-at-lunch list.

When Elise's beautiful sister catches the eye of the prince's best friend, Elise gets to spend a lot of time with Derek, making her the envy of every girl on campus. Except she refuses to fall for any of his rare smiles and instead warms up to his enemy, the surprisingly charming social outcast Webster Grant. But in this hilarious tale of fitting in and flirting, not all snubs are undeserved, not all celebrity brats are bratty, and pride and prejudice can get in the way of true love for only so long.

Eternal Eden (Eden Trilogy, Book One) Review

I finished the book just this morning and I got to tell you people, you are missing out if you skip over this book! The story begins with Bryn Dawson, as she begins a new but sad start at an Oregon college. Bryn is trying to move on from her past tragedies, but isn't really moving on at all until she has the "misforuntate" meeting with William. William is a new student who pretty much demanded a tour of the school, and Bryn hates everything about him. He's confident, arrogant, and surrounded by members of the opposite sex that are vying for his attention. Is William all he seems though? He may be just the person to smash down the walls around her heart whether she wants him to or not. Bryn is confused why someone like William would show any interest in her at all, but unfortunatly for Bryn, William isn't the only one who shows interest. I really feel it would be an injustice to reveal the plot of this book, but it's truly a love story through and through. It's character driven, so the supernatural elements blend in nicely but don't over power the purpose of the book. The backdrops and settings are very well written without being overly wordy. You can picture the surroundings in your head very well without the author taking 10 pages to do so, which in my opinion is a great art in and of itself. It's written for a YA audience, but I'm a 30 something and loved it! There are some small editing flaws with misplaced words or spelling but not enough to really be distracting. You will feel like you've been on a journey right alongside the characters, and grow to love Bryn and William! I am excited for Fallen Eden! Come on Summer!!!!

Eternal Eden (Eden Trilogy, Book One) Overview

College sophomore Bryn Dawson is a self-proclaimed poster child for normal. However, the day William Hayward enters her life, normalcy is the last thing Bryn will be able to count on if she wants to be with him. Too mysterious and appealing to be good for a girl, Bryn feels drawn to him in a way that seems out of her control-as if fate is orchestrating it. Despite every red flag and warning siren going off in her head telling her not to, Bryn falls hard for William, knowing he's categorically different from anyone she's ever met. She never imagined how right she was. When William takes her deeper into the rabbit hole of his world, Bryn must decide just how much she is willing to sacrifice to be with him, knowing no matter what, fate always finds a way to have the last laugh.Spinning a new twist on star-crossed lovers, Eternal Eden will put Bryn through a gauntlet of turmoil, challenging her to find the power within herself to become the heroine in her own story. Divergent (Divergent Trilogy) Review

Divergent was definitely a new riveting tale that had me rapidly flipping the pages in a reading frenzy! It starts off with the reader getting to know the lifestyle of Beatrice, a sixteen year old girl, in a dystopian or controlled world, where there are five factions of people: Abnegation who put others before their own needs and where Beatrice is currently from, the Dauntless who are brave and fearless, the Erudite who are studious, the Amity who are peaceful, and the Candor who are honest. Before Choosing Day, where each sixteen year old will decide which faction they wish to devote their life to, is a simulated aptitude test that will tell Beatrice which faction she would fit in most with...but for her life will never be simple. Instead of having just one of these traits as is normal, Beatrice possesses at least three, which makes her a dangerous person for reasons she doesn't understand, and answers are not forthcoming as she has to keep this information to herself or risk being killed.
From there Beatrice has to make her own mark in the world, and ultimately makes a decision that will change the rest of her life. No more does she portray the meek, silent girl with no spirit, but instead forces herself to rise up to the challenges she faces in both the initiation and in her life. For if she lets her guard down, she faces becoming factionless, without friends or family, but what she doesn't expect to find along her new path is what she yearned for all along. To understand who she really is.
Divergent is one novel that had me jumping out of my seat, biting my nails to the quick as I was drawn into Beatrice's world, cheering her on one minute, and wanting to cry with her the next. She does have her moments where she seems a little cold like when she wishes one boy would stop sniveling, and you see why Abnegation didn't suit her. But then the next minute she is putting herself in danger for someone else, and you understand why she has a bit of a split personality. She's been born into a society that believes you can only have one quality, and she has to figure out on her own that being brave dosen't mean that she has to give up being selfless as well. As she fights to stay in the competition, for only ten initiates will be able to call their new faction familiy, I couldn't help but root for her. Beatrice has a lot to learn, but it's through obstacles and the friendship's she makes that she ultimately finds herself. This is one book that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who loves action, bravery, a little romance, and a ton of adventure. Be forewarned that it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and eagerly anticipating a sequel!

Ethereal (Celestra Series Book 1) Review

I LOVED this book... I cannot wait to see what happens with the characters. I recommend this book to anyone who is tired of the same old paranormal romance book. This book has it all. If you like Amanda Hocking you will love this book too. Great characters, great story, great writer. Can't wait to read more.

Ethereal (Celestra Series Book 1) Overview

Skyla's bloodlines may just be connected to the most powerful angelic beings that roam the earth, and the more she knows, the more danger she seems to be in. Suddenly an entire faction of earthbound angels wants her dead, at least she still has Logan, or does she? About the author; Addison Moore enjoys writing young adult paranormal romance. She often overdoses on chocolate and watches way too much reality TV.

The Fallen Star (Fallen Star Series Book 1) Review

Summary
Gemma has lived her life believing that she was a freak. She has violet eyes and until recently she has had no emotions. She never felt angry, happy, sad, or any other emotion a normal person would feel. About a month ago she started feeling tingling sensations accompanied by emotions. She also started dreaming about being chased by monstrous things with glowing yellow eyes that had the intention of killing her. Gemma lives with her "grandparents" Sophia and Marco in a small town. She is not close with the people she lives with so as she experiences new emotions she has no one to talk to about it and tries to figure things out on her own. Enter Alex and Aislin Avery. Gemma feels electricity pulse through her body every time Alex is near. Alex is moody and Gemma gets the idea that he hates her. As the story progresses Gemma learns things about herself by spending time with Alex and Aislin. She wants to trust Alex but feels that he is only telling half truths. Secrets unravel to reveal that Gemma is something special and her life is in danger. She has to figure out who to trust before it is too late.
My thoughts:
The story was kind of slow starting for me. I wasn't sure where the story was going even though there was interaction with characters. Chapter 7 was where I began to understand what was going to be an important clue to Gemma's life. Once I was on board I loved Gemma. She was independent and strong willed. She was not a push over and I like that in female characters. The author included paranormal characters (a vampire, dark angel, witch, and fairy) but they weren't overpowering. These characters interacted with Gemma throughout the book. If she could believe that characters like this truly existed then it would be easier for Gemma to accept her own story as it unraveled.
Alex Avery is described as a gorgeous guy with dark brown hair and bright green eyes. His introduction to the story had him being short and abrupt with Gemma even though there was a connection between the two. I didn't really get why he was so abrupt with Gemma in the beginning. The only explanation given was that he was moody. One minute he was distancing himself emotionally and the next he was flirting. As the story went on he became protective and more forthcoming. Gemma accused him of being a liar but I think he told half truths because that was what he was told. Alex believed what he said was truth. There were other characters that seemed to have information about Gemma. Their knowledge helped fill in the gaps to the puzzle of Gemma's life.
Since this is book 1 of a series I was left with one thought at the end: "Holy cliffhanger, Batman". Gemma's life is in danger and the author leaves the reader with one question...What happened to Gemma? All I can say is well played Jessica Sorensen, well played. I became invested in the lives of these characters and cannot wait to see what will happen next.

The Fallen Star (Fallen Star Series Book 1) Overview

For eighteen year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. Up until recently, she has been incapable of feeling emotion. And when she's around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life. But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma's life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn't be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death. BookWhisperer's review-May 22, 20115 out of 5 stars"This is definitely a book to be recommended."Katina Hernandez's (Tigris Eden) review-May 2, 20115 out 5 stars“There are so many twists and turns in the story and the ending will leave you wanting more. Sorensen wrote a dark and intriguing book."Book Passion for Life's review-June 23, 2011“Overall, this is a fantastic debut novel. Jessica has done a great job and I'm dying to get my hands on the next book."Newly edited version released on 7/9/11. Shattered (Dream Realms Trilogy, #1) Review

This book had both its high points and its low points. I loved the concept of the dream world and am sad that we didn't get to see more than a tiny glimpse of this intriguing place. I liked the style of writing and the length of the book.
However, from the vampires to the elders to the gray Volvo, this book screams Twilight knockoff. I also rolled my eyes when Laura ran off with Logan without a second thought, even though she barely knew him.
Overall, I enjoyed parts of this book. I just wish that the characters were given more depth and that the plot was more original. It did not leave me screaming for a sequel, unfortunately.
