The Devil of Kilmartin Review

Elena & Symon are good characters and interesting to read about. Symon is especially intriguing as a clan leader who must fight madness to lead his people. Along comes the healer Elena, whom he wants to heal him and more. Her inability to trust Symon when he is so obviously trustworthy grates after a while. Most of the emotional power of the book comes from Symon as well. Even so, emotional power is not one of Ms. Wittig's strong suits. The villain's motives are not made clear enough early on to make the most of his character, and the majority of the secondary characters are flat or undifferentiated. As a result, the book doesn't quite fulfill it's promise. It is, nevertheless, an enjoyable read--just nothing to write home about.

The Devil of Kilmartin Overview

In the dark of night, Elena of Lamont must flee her home after her father's death to escape the brutal clansman determined to satisfy his lust for power -- and for her. But as the captivating beauty runs from one dangerous man she finds herself landing in the arms of another, one whose passionate embrace offers perils of its own...As the chief of the Lachlan clan, Symon MacLachlan vows to protect the fiery-haired lass whose gentle touch relieves the demons clawing at his soul. Despite her fierce denials, he is certain Elena is the legendary Lamont healer -- and certain that he must have her for his own. Desperate for her soothing caress -- and unable to quell the desire burning inside him -- Symon is compelled to lure Elena into marriage. But will he be able to win the love of the tender enchantress who has stolen his heart?"Weaving passion, honor, intrigue adn a touch of the paranormal...Ms. Wittig has secued a place of honor on my 'must-read' list."~Escape to Romance Reviews"An exciting Medieval Scottish romance...engaging...fans will relish this delightful historical tale."~BookBrowser

Saint's Gate Review

While "Trust your faith. Let it guide you to act with strength, courage, and compassion" is good advice; it is not always easy to follow with a killer invades one's life, whether one is a nun, an FBI agent, or a priest.
Emma Sharpe is an FBI agent and highly valued for her expertise in the field of art crime. For three years she'd been a part of the Sisters of the Joyful Heart convent, but left before taking final vows.
The international, multimillion dollar art crime operations are often linked with gun trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, kidnapping, fraud, extortion, and even terrorism. Emma is analytical and brings a unique perception to her work. While she can shoot straight and fight when needed, she is by nature thoughtful, reflective, contemplative, and prayerful. She needs her space at times to function at her best.
When her friend Sister Joan asks for help on a matter at the convent, Emma goes and finds herself entangled in murder and theft. Events that happened long ago that may involve Emma's family as well as the convent and artists, long-dead, may be the cause of the upheaval at the convent.
Colin Donovan, trying to recharge after a long undercover assignment as a FBI ghost agent, is a "Lone Ranger" type who likes his space. But, at the request of his friend, Father Finian Bracken, Colin gets involved with the convent case. It is on his "old stomping ground", just a short distance from his hometown. From his marine patrol days along the Maine coast, he is well acquainted with Heron's Cove and the convent. He and Emma square off at each other for a short time, but soon work together with a little encouragement from Emma's boss Matt Yankowski, who goes a long way back with Colin.
The tangle of events from Dublin, Ireland to Maine keeps the adrenaline pumping. The many secondary characters and sub-plots help keep tensions high and emotions on full alert. Emma's grandfather and brother become a part of the tangled web as do the nuns. The flighty young artist Ainsley deAuberville, her deceased father, and her fiancé Gabe Campbell add to the tangled web with their connection to Emma's family and the convent.
Carla Neggers' skill in foreshadowing and subtle clue-giving make suspense crackle like distant lightning that announces danger. Her characters come alive with their hang-ups, fears, past histories, and present needs. Father Finian Bracken is a character that intrigues with his connections and wealth in Ireland. The wide variety of characters make Saint's Gate throb with life, mystery, and suspense with humor wrinkled in that makes one smile.
Ms. Neggers weaves bits of Viking lore, religious history, and art crimes into the immediate story of Emma and Colin as they ferret out a murderer and thief from the many possible suspects while they make a life-changing love connection that sizzles. The happy-ever-after is tenuous--not the usual and more a "happy for now", but who knows what the future holds?
Saint's Gate is one for the bookshelf to be enjoyed again.

But when the nun who contacted her is murdered, it seems legend is becoming deadly reality.Colin Donovan is one of the FBI's most valuable assets—a deep-cover agent who prefers to go it alone. He's back home in Maine after wrapping up his latest mission, but his friend Father Bracken presents him with an intrigue of murder, international art heists and a convent's long-held secrets that is too tempting to resist. As the danger spirals ever closer, Colin is certain of only one thing—the very intriguing Emma Sharp is at the center of it all.A ruthless killer has Emma and Colin in the crosshairs, plunging them into a race against time and drawing them deeper into a twisted legacy of betrayal and deceit.

Fairy Tale Weddings Review

The stories are a bit "hokey", but I enjoyed them anyway. This book contains 2 stories: "Cindy and the Prince" (based on Cinderella) and "Some Kind of Wonderful" (based on Beauty and the Beast.) Both were originally published in the 1980's. In "Cindy and the Prince," Cindy works as a maintenance worker (janitor) at Thorndike Prince's company. They meet at a company party that she crashes. She has to be home by midnight and he searches for her after that. You can guess the rest. In "Some Kind of Wonderful," Judy Lovin's family is about to loose everything if John McFarland calls in their bank note. But he offers a reprieve if she comes to stay with him at his island. Judy's family nickname is "Beauty," and their nickname for John is "Beast." Neither of the stories has very well developed characters, but they are sweet to read, and somewhat realistic. John McFarland, for example, learns that he can't keep his love trapped/captive on his island. He needs to let her go and trust her.

People on the list are getting killed, the toll is getting higher and more is at stake that then could ever have imagined. It's left up to Ashley to remember details of the accident something that will change her life forever.
Wow!!!!
I must say this romantic thriller, was filled with twists and turns at every corner. I was intrigued from beginning to end with this read, and at one stage I felt like a crazed reader, flickering through 100 miles per hour just to find out whom, what, where and why!!!
A suspenseful thriller- romance that will leave you bewildered, guessing and wandering who the killer was, and why. An unpredictable plot by any means, suspense that will leave you gasping, unexpected events that will bring tears to your eyes; make you fume at events that take place, and also making the plot both intriguing and memorable. Chapters flowed smoothly, the plot was fast paced, and kept the reader interested throughout from beginning to end. I felt not a thing was missed or rushed...
Slow burn was filled with luscious sensual love scenes, that not only with have your toes curling, eyelashes fluttering, but your heart racing like a bird in flight. Moments where you will find yourself grinning with amusement at the funny antics between the characters, and moments where your heart is being played like a marionette and scenes where you want to just jump into the book.
The main characters were well developed, Ron - was charming and flirtatious, a successul business man, rich, cocky, and hot to trot, yet also has his own vunerabilites, this showed the reader he was not that perfect hot firefighter- playboy and that he also had issues he had to deal with. Loving and caring and sexy an idealistic hero for all. A tortured soul to a certain extent.
Ashley was hot headed in what she believed in and independent, caring and considerate, but also I enjoyed her straight forward character, she liked the truth and believed to give it at all costs. She was passionate about her work and the ones she loved, determined to do what it took to keep the ones she loved out of danger. Not a character I would consider stuck up or snotty but down to earth and very realistic.
The blazing attraction between Ron and Ashley was mesmerizing, tantalizing and passionate. Sex scenes were sensual and loving, electrifying- if you make call it, yet at times also dreamy and transient. Their love was portrayed, tastefully and emotionally giving a good insight to their feelings. Both the good and the bad moments. The descriptions in this story were Fluent, expressive and rhythmic well above defined, there is nothing quite like reading a book and being able to envisage scenery, scents and smells. I am one for great descriptions and this book does not disappoint.
Secondary characters all blended in well, nothing missed out and even the villains were portrayed as noxious, and demented. Definitely incalculable. Making you dislike the character. Ednah defined this well. The other characters, loyal and faithful, and heartfelt. I enjoyed all the characters in Slow Burn, each and every one unique and necessary for the plot to unwind.
Overall, I must say, I had Goosebumps by the end, Held my breath and hoped for the best .... I am a dramatic reader, but you know when you have read a good book when it pulls at your emotions and when the end is done ... you sigh! And breathe... I'm sure I held my breath last few chapters.
A capricious read !!!! I'm sure you will enjoy.
Look forward to reading more of the Fitzgerald series.

Happily Never After Review

Set in the world of her Night Huntress series, this story was originally published in the Weddings from Hell anthology (this review is reincarnated and slightly revamped from my review of that book).
Happily Never After is not a Cat and Bones short, although it has several brief pop-ins by Bones, but do not let that stop you. The hero, vampire Chance, is one of Bone's compadres, and is an almost as luscious. As a favor to his sire Bones, Chance steps in to save the lovely Isabella from a coerced marriage to a would-be B-movie type mafia boss and Chance finds himself attracted to her with an intensity he's never felt before in his very long life. Isabella and Chance are every bit as good as Bones and Cat, Frost does great heroes and competent intelligent heroines well. This was fun addition to the Night Huntress world, but I did have one nit - trying to pull Bones into the story felt forced and a bit hokey to me - I think that Chance could have managed nicely on his own.

Happily Never After Overview

Isabella Spaga is about to reluctantly walk down the aisle with Mr. Dangerously Wrong...but not if dashing vampire Chance has anything to say about it. As a favor to Bones, Chance has come to derail this wedding of beauty to the beast. Now if only he can keep his hands off the bride. From New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress world, it's the wedding of the season...that everyone wants to miss. (Originally appeared in Weddings From Hell anthology)

Playing Dirty (Hqn) Review

My Review:
They have a lot of history between them and the majority of it has played out in a highly contentious way. Cade found himself in elementary school being drawn to Ava's infectious laughter and joy in life, so he reacted in the way that most little boys do...by tormenting her. In turn, she called him "Buttface Gallari." This type of interaction continued through high school until they found themselves as biology partners for 6 weeks. There was a mutual attraction, but unfortunately in the midst of it all, Cade found out some devastating news and, acting as an immature teen, he acted out in a way that shattered Ava's fragile heart and humiliated her. Now it's 13 years later and they are having to figure out how to get past it all to work together.
What a wonderful book. There is so much emotion between Cade and Ava even if a lot of it is truly bad. Heartbreak and humiliation make up a lot of it, but underlying it all for both of them is an undeniable attraction. Cade is still incredibly drawn to Ava. He has tried to apologize to her many times over the years, but she doesn't even want to discuss it. She would rather ignore the subject, even though there are also huge lingering trust issues for her because of the "incident." They both were left scarred from the events that happened in high school. The question is can either of them work past it all...
I loved both of these characters. They are working so hard to be mature and not to lash out at each other, although that is the automatic reaction for both of them. They can deal with anyone else in the world just fine and pleasantly, but they get together and they react to each other like oil and water.
I liked the overall story line for this book. Cade is making a film in the old mansion that Ava inherited with her childhood friends Poppy & Jane. It creates a wonderfully elegant ambience for the book. Unfortunately, there is also a mild suspense story line about a missing fortune in diamonds. It is such a minor part of the book, that it could have been left out and personally, I wish that it had been. That small part of the story line did nothing but detract away from Cade and Ava's story. It was really the only part of the book that I didn't like.
This book did have a great cast of characters. I have read a ton of Susan Anderson's books over the year and with this being #3 in the series, I am guessing that I have read at least one of the other books in the series before. Regardless, I think that I need to find the first 2 in the series and read them. And personally, I think that we need to put a little bug in Ms. Anderson's ear that we need Beks (Cade's asst) story as soon as possible!!

Playing Dirty (Hqn) Overview

When old enemies are thrown together, all bets are off...Way back in high school, golden boy Cade Gallari publicly revealed he'd slept with "fat girl" Ava Spencer to win a bet. Now a decade older and a head turner with her own concierge business, Ava isn't the gullible dreamer she once was— and she plans to prove it when Cade, hotter than ever, breezes back into town with an offer she can't refuse.A documentary film producer, Cade is shooting a movie about the mysterious mansion Ava inherited. And he wants her as his personal concierge. She's certainly professional enough to be at his beck and call without giving him everything he wants. Like another shot at having her in his bed. But Ava doesn't count on Cade's determination. Because he's never gotten over her— and he's not above playing dirty to score a second chance at a red–hot future...

Born To Die (Selena Alvarez/Regan Pescoli Novels) Review

Lisa Jackson's newest book Born to Die was just as good as I had could have imagined. The main character Kacey was so fascinating and had so much depth and character to her. I really felt compelled to her and wanted to see her kept safe. I found myself getting lost in the story and finished it all in a weekend. I have always enjoyed the town of Grizzly Falls in Montana and all of it's unique characters. What a great idea to have this series of books happen in such a small and remote town. It makes it that much more bone chilling to think it could happen anywhere and to anyone. I've always been a fan of the Alvarez/ Pescoli team. What a dynamic female duo! After the last book Chosen to Die I almost feel like I'm right along the two ladies helping to solve all these cases! With the body count rising I never knew who to suspect and who was innocent. Lisa Jackson did it again! The To Die Series has fast become my favorite set of books!

Born To Die (Selena Alvarez/Regan Pescoli Novels) Overview

Appearances'A sad, strange coincidence'that's Dr. Kacey Lambert's initial response to the deaths of two women who bear an uncanny resemblance to herself. It's not like there was any real connection between Kacey and the B-movie actress or the elementary school teacher. But Detective Selena Alvarez suspects otherwise. Can Be'One of the bodies contained traces of poison at the time of death. Selena and her partner, Detective Regan Pescoli, can find no motive for murder. But Kacey has started to notice ties between the dead women's lives and her own-all close in age, born within miles of each other. And all have links to Trace O'Halleran, the man Kacey just started dating. Deadly'The deeper Kacey digs, the more reason she has to fear. More look-alikes are dying, and the killer is getting bolder and more brutal. And Kacey knows it's only a matter of time before hers is the next name on a list of those who were born to die'
