The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child, Vol. 3: Early Modern Times, 2nd Edition (9 CDs) Review
I purchased this to use along with the Story of the World text and activity book in our homeschool. I thought it would give me a much needed break from reading everything to my non-readers. It is an unabridged reading of the text, although Jim Weiss's reading is too affected and unnatural. Perhaps some people would like this kind of sing-song reading, but it gets irritating after a couple of chapters. My kids often ask me, "Awww, Mom, couldn't *you* just read it?"The biggest problem with this product is that there is no index for the recording. If you are following along in the book and stop mid-chapter to come back another day, there is NO way to figure out what track to go to on which CD. For instance, Disc one has 10 tracks and is labeled "Introduction-Chapter 5", with no more details.
If you are looking for a book on CD to listen to while you are in the car or doing other things, this may meet your need if you want to hear some general stories from world history. However, if you are looking to use this as a tool to complete the curriculum, it is not very user friendly.
