Some Kind of Wonderful Review

Caitlyn has a past she'd rather forget. Matt is looking for his past. The two live across the hall from each other but have never met. That is, until one night a baby is left in the hallway, on Matt's side, and he goes across the hall to Caitlyn for help. Together the two take care of the baby and fight the pain of each of their past.
This was a good novel. The characters were likable and well developed. They could be people we all know in real life. They each grow throughout the story and grow together as neighbors and friends. The storyline in this book seemed to be well thought out. It moved at a fairly decent pace.
There are a lot of events that happen over the one week course of this story. All in all this was a good book. I found myself reading as fast as I could because I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I would like to see a follow-up book to this story. Maybe one more in-depth with Sarah and Reverend Johnathan.

All I can say is when does the third book come out? I want it now lol. It is a good story and I want to know what happens next. The only down sides I see are some grammatical errors through the book but who cares you can figure out what she meant. And when I got to the last page I thought something was wrong with my phone (I use it as an e-reader) the book ended to just a blank page. Usually it will give info on what to look for with the next title or something and the ending was so open I was wondering if I had actually finished it. However none of that would bother me if I wasn't just dying to read the next book.

There is the story of Ryan, the town's "bad boy" and his attraction with Kara, a good girl. A secondary love story is included, with Andrew, Ryan's brother. This novel tells a story of a father who can never stop loving his younger son. Brothers once close, now seperated by misunderstanding. Its a tale of forgiveness, forgiving once parents, children, and girlfriends for the sins in their pasts. Its a tale of rising river, the fathers loves of that rushing water and Ryan's fear of the same river that makes his father and brother complete. Ms. Freethy employs the use of comic relief in this heavely emotional story. One example is the fist fight Andrew and Ryan get into that lands them in jail. Read it and I garantee that you won't be able to put it down.

At first the story seems a bit predictable--Kasey and Connie are immediately attracted and will eventually get together and fall in love-right. Not so fast! First they go through some wrenching personal stuff with Connie's Mom. Next they face their own fears and some baggage from the past. Then when they finally do get together they have to deal with all different forms of prejudice on the way to everlasting love. Including tragedy that rocks their world and the fairly closeted gay community in which they live. The story is well written. The characters feel real. It is sometimes sad and at other times laugh out loud funny. I am going to read all of her books now. Don't miss this book.

The Sweetest Thing Review

Barbara Freethy has acquired a new fan. This story was touching but not saccharine, fast-moving but fleshed-out, sensual without being too graphic, and mystical but not far-fetched. While the ending was a bit rushed, the loose ends all coming together conveniently, it was still a great introduction to a talented author, and worthy of any reader's "keeper" shelf.

Okay, so I missed the little phrase 'romance novel' in this book's title when I purchased it. I, up to this point, had neither read, nor wanted to read, a so-called 'romance novel'. Not to get too personal in a book review, but I have plenty of real 'romance' in my personal life, so I've never cared to read about it in a novel. But I digress. I downloaded this book and read it without realizing it wasn't a typical 'chick lit' novel. And you know what? It was really good! Ms. Allan is a terrific writer and this is a very charming story. So, whether you're interested in 'romance' or not, I recommend this book, especially in light of its very reasonable price.
